Ingredients for 6 Servings
- 1 liter of red wine
- 70 g of sugar
- 1 package of vanilla sugar
- 8 cl of STROH 80
- seeds from one vanilla bean
- 2 teaspoons of freshly grated ginger
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 star anise
- 70 g of almonds, peeled and slivered
- 3 tablespoons of raisins (optional)
- 2 apples for garnish
Preparation
- Peel the ginger (using a spoon works best) and grate it finely.
- Pour the red wine into a pot and heat it over medium heat.
- Add the sugar, vanilla sugar, vanilla seeds, cinnamon sticks, star anise, STROH, and grated ginger. Then add the raisins.
- Reduce the temperature and let it simmer for a few minutes.
- Remove from heat, cover, and let it steep for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight.
- Afterward, strain out the spices and reheat the Glöggerl.
- Add the slivered almonds and (optional) raisins. Fill into cups.
- Slice an apple and cut out star shapes.
- Serve the STROH Glöggerl garnished with the apple slices.
